How does a hammock underblanket work?

In a hammock, most heat is lost from below, because your body weight squashes your clothing or the loft in your sleeping bag. An underblanket hangs beneath the hammock so its loft isn't compressed, creating a pocket of air warmed by your body. Hang it with a little slack so it gently hugs the hammock when you're inside.
